Alongside her larger bodies of work, Helen undertakes private portrait and landscape commissions in oils. Portraits range from personal family commissions to painted tributes for public figures and community members, each approached with the same close attention to character, colour and detail that defines her exhibition work.
Every portrait grows out of careful observation of the sitter, and often a conversation with them or their family, so that the finished painting reflects something of who they actually are, not just how they look.
